John Carew

Norwegian striker John Carew began his career with Valerenga, for whom he quickly made a name, scoring 14 goals in 32 league starts. In 1999 he moved to Rosenborg and broke into the Norway national team before being snapped up by Spanish giants Valencia.

However, he struggled to find his form in La Liga and in 2004 he moved to Turkey to play for Besiktas. A year later he signed for Lyon and flourished with the French champions, but in January 2007 they swapped him for Milan Baros and Carew began a new phase in his career with Aston Villa.

His first half season at Villa Park proved to be a good one as he became a regular starter, playing 13 games and scoring four goals.

He continued this fine form in 2007/08, and was once again a valuable player in 2008/09, despite injury and controversy surrounding an off-field indiscretion.
