Carlos Vela signed for Arsenal in 2005 from Mexican youth club Deportivo Guadalajara.

He spent time on loan at Celta Vigo, Salamanca and Osasuna from 2006 to 2008.

In 2008/09, he made his debut in a Premier League match against Newcastle as a substitute for Robin Van Persie.

He scored a hat trick on his full debut, a 6-0 win over Sheffield United in the Carling Cup, and added another goal in the 3-0 win over Wigan in the next round.
