Bacary Sagna

Arsenal signed French right-back Bacary Sagna from Auxerre in July 2007.

Sagna started his career with Auxerre, breaking into the team in 2004 and quickly establishing himself as one of the top young defenders in Ligue 1 as well as representing his country at Under-21 level.

In 2006/07 he continued to impress and was voted into the Ligue 1 Team Of The Year as well as winning his first call-up to the full international squad.

His performances drew the attention of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who quickly signed him for the Gunners.

In his first season with Arsenal, he became a first-team regular and was rewarded for a superb campaign with an extended deal.

He continued his development in the 2008/09 season and is now one of the cornerstones of Arsene Wenger's squad.
