Coppell is considering whether to remain with the Royals following their relegation from the Premier League and has held talks with the club's director of football, Nick Hammond.
"Steve and I had a good discussion," Hammond told the club's official website. "We have agreed that he needs a few days to reflect on the situation and to decide the best way forward.
"We're going to meet again later in the week."
Royals chairman John Madejski had earlier told Sky Sports News: "Obviously I'd like Steve Coppell to stay.
"He has a year left on his contract and there's a groundswell of fans who would also like him to stay, but at the end of the day, if Steve decides he needs a break then that's up to Steve.
"If Steve Coppell decides he's going to go and he's his own man, then he'll go, but I will obviously try and persuade him to stay, but it's his decision."
