The 28-year-old has not featured since the game against Arsenal which saw his challenge on Eduardo leave the Gunners striker with a career-threatening leg injury.

However, with Liam Ridgewell ruled out by suspension, McLeish may opt to bring Taylor back into the fold.

He told reporters: "If Martin was tentative at all then I would have to consider that, but I don't really see any signs of that.

"He eased his way in in a reserve game, but it's difficult to judge that. Maybe he needs another reserve game to make some other judgments.

"Martin is ready fitness-wise, but I have got to consider if it significantly improves the team. We have choices and we have got to try and find the right formula."

Meanwhile, McLeish has confirmed that French midfielder Olivier Kapo is not quite ready to return after a hamstring problem, but is hopeful that the player will be fit for next week's showdown with Wigan Athletic.

He added: "Manchester City is too early for him. He will rejoin us in the middle of next week after undergoing fitness stuff with the physios and he will be available for Wigan."
