The Towngate incorporates a 19th Century feel to it, with various portraits on the walls, the carpets and wallpaper and the predominance of dark wood. Various old fashioned chandeliers and lamps provide the lighting. There is a bar, as well as a no-smoking area on each level and the walls are covered with framed sepia and black and white scenes of past times. The Towngate attracts the younger customer of Basildon in the evening, who enjoy the new entertainment including live bands and DJs at the weekend.
